With the 2003 season well and truly underway for most of the team it has not gone unnoticed by many that we have been once again in and around the top end of the results in a number of races. Some good early season form has been shown by both Dominic Sweeney and Greg Ashley on the road and against the clock.
Leicester Road Club 4 Up Team Time Trial
This event saw the team put out a strong first four but things did
not go to plan when we lost Paul Tomkins early on in the race to illness which
it later transpired was a virus which Paul is still struggling to shake off.
The team soldiered on [ Dom Sweeney, Craig Twigg and Rob Lloyd] on a wind
swept but warm day to complete the course in a respectable 1 hr 12 mins 7
seconds for 5th place. Team Bradgate took the honours with a good ride of
1 hr 9 mins 50 secs.
Central District Ladies 10 Mile T.T.
Winner on the day on the Barrow on Soar course was Jeff Snodin [22mins 22 secs] followed by Craig Twigg [Lutterworth Cycle Centre][22 mins 50 secs] with Steffan Rick [23 mins 34 secs] in third. The weather was very blustery on this undulating course and other notable rides by our team came from Jim Silver and Andy Green. A high placing would also have been on the cards for Greg Ashley had he not took a wrong turning at the only roundabout on the course! He had to do a "U" turn and lost any advantage he had gained earlier in the event.
Leicester Road Club Hilly
On yet another wind swept day on the hilly circuit it was another classy victory for local lad Matt Bottrill [Race Scene] who was head and shoulders above the competition with a time of 1 hr 11 mins 50 secs. Second in a closely fought battle was the evergreen veteran Geoff Platts [Team Clean] in 1hr 13mins 22 secs with Tony Allcock in third place six seconds adrift. Fourth was Lutterworths own Craig Twigg in 1hr 13mins 31seconds. Craig had reversed the result from the CDLCA 10 miler by beating Jeff Snodin into 5th place. Sixth was former Lutterworth member Ashley Long. The team prize was won by Lutterworth Cycle Centre with counting riders Greg Ashley [1.18.14], Jim Silver [1.20.54], Andy Green [1.24.41] and Mark White [1.29.15]
Victoria Park Criteriums
Outings have been made on the opening two rounds of this series of events
and team members have been prominent in the results.
Rob Lloyd achieved a 5th and 7th place in the first of the rounds and was
alsojoined by Kellie Sidwell who also did well to gain a 4th and 3rd place
in the same event.
In the following race some weeks later it was the turn of Andy Bray who got
into a break of 3
riders who managed to lap the whole field and he was able to take a comfortable
3rd place for his first point of the season.
